Sister's Shirt is a design that sprang from my memories of family and growing up. Every year after our family sold our crop, we would have just enough money to buy pieces of cloth to make new sarongs (ผ้าถุง). But this one year my mom did something different. She said "I am going to make a shirt that'll fit you and your sisters." She borrowed scissors from a neighbor and cut the cloth in half and then sewed the two pieces together. She did this by hand-stitching using thread that we had made from tree bark and a needle that had been handed down from her mother. When she finished it looked like one side was shorter than the other, and she said with an excited voice. The longer part in the back makes you look taller, and the shorter front makes your legs look long and thin. This is perfect for your sisters' figure! "Sometimes, us girls need to feel beautiful, strong and confident within ourselves."- said my mom. My sisters and I learned at a young age how to live with what we had and be happy. When I think of my Sister's Shirt it makes me smile as a sweet memory of a simpler life between Mother, daughter and sisters. I am grateful to have had a loving mom and kind sisters.
